Application discovery
The second stage in the process looks to identify those services that we need to be concerned with in the new strategy. Our experience shows that most organisations have struggled to keep up with what apps are current in their organisation as the nature of the PC based solution means that it is difficult for IT to keep abreast of all changes of this nature in the business. The first stage in proceedings is therefore for us to monitor the end user’s devices and establish which applications are available to them, but critically which of these they actually work with.
This activity allows us to establish the apps that we actually need to be concerned with in looking to define the most appropriate strategy. For many organisations we engage with, the change that is occurring in the desktop and application space in their business is an ideal opportunity to rationalise the business application estate. This stage in our process helps to identify those apps that are no longer required in the business and can therefore immediately be removed from the app catalogue.
